Have fun!
At the Neighborhood Studio, we use the phrase movement arts to describe all practices that seek to educate and empower the individual through awareness of their own body. Yoga, dance, integrated movement, Nia and more are all movement arts. All practices honor the body's structure and all practices ask us to bring our whole selves into conscious awareness as we practice. The combination of conscious awareness AND sensation make all the movement arts, or body/mind practices, so beneficial to our health AND our overall well being. We invite you to seek comfort and joy in all our classes.

NIA
"Nia" with Lisa Mandle. NIA combines dance, martial arts, and yoga to bring health and wellness to the whole self. Choreographed to inspiring music, Nia uses 52 movements made up of steps, stances, kicks, punches, blocks, core movements and movements of the upper extremeties, head and neck. Clearly presented with room for you and your body to move in your way, each class begins slowly with focus on mobility in the 13 joints. Then the movement increases and levels are presented and you are encouraged to modify for you and your bodys way. The movements feel natural, right, human. They are movements based on how our body is designed to move. Nia feels good. An acronym for both Non Impact Aerobics AND Neuromuscular Integrated Action, NIA awakens the WARRIOR/DANCER/ATHLETE within. Nia invites us to choose JOY and COMFORT in all our movements to find health and wellness of the whole self; body + mind + emotion + spirit.
